SYLC Conference participants are chosen by their CYM, each from their individual site. Each CYM can bring only a limited number of candidates, and it is therefore an affirmation of one's gifts to be invited to attend this event. If you are interested in attending, talk to your CYM for more information!
During the week, participants live in "cabin" style rooms. Boys and girls live in gender specific cabins and use separate restroom facilities. There are approximately twenty-five people staying in each cabin. Beds are assigned and each person has a bed and nightstand to keep their belongings.
Camp St. Francis is located in Aptos, California, only miles away from Santa Cruz. The weather at camp can be very unpredictable with cold fog in the mornings, sunny afternoons, and mild evenings. We recommend you check the weather prior to packing and that you are prepared for changing conditions throughout the day.
Parents and friends can find out what is going on during the week by checking this website for updates. A SYLC email ([email protected]) will also allow you to send greetings to participating individuals, groups or the community. All messages will be posted!

The week is not specifically a retreat but a conference run by the Salesians of Don Bosco. The sessions/workshops do have faith-based perspectives, yet skills taught apply to all experiences of leadership and relationships. The process can help anyone gain a deeper sense of purpose and direction in life. The experience of community life is guided by gospel values and includes beach time, recreation, socials, daily Mass and morning and evening prayer.
