New catechetical ministry

Several parishes in San Francisco have closed, some in the North Beach area, due to a variety of reasons. Sts. Peter and Paul has now become one of the official parishes ministering to young people of every background. A director of religious education has been appointed to direct a catechetical program especially for public school children. Emphasis is on preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. On-going religious education for every grade and formation of catechists are goals set for the coming years.

Youth groups

Besides, the youth work, the Salesian Sisters minister to the youth groups of the parish through their biweekly meetings with Sts. Peter and Paul youth groups. The youth are helped to develop their spiritual life and also trained to minister to other young people as youth ministers through coaching and servings as counselors at the annual summer day camps offered though the Salesian Boys and Girls Club.

Salesian youth spirituality

By focusing in on their spiritual heritage Salesians have been able to work more closely together as a huge family not only "for" the young but "with" the young in today's Church. All who find their inspiration in the educational enthusiasm of Don Bosco and Mary Mazzarello form a united front for the sake of young people. Salesian ministry at Sts. Peter and Paul envisions bright horizons for the youth of tomorrow as we minister in hope and joy to the youth of the Church today.

Conclusion

For over seventy years, Sts. Peter and Paul Salesian School has offered the local youth an outstanding Christian education, helping them become aware of the socio-cultural world around them, their place in society, and their responsibility towards it. The Lord will reveal himself and light the way to the new millennium by the active involvement of Salesians: sisters, brothers, priests and laity, combining forces in youth ministry throughout the world. Our journey in this life will be truly an adventure filled with opportunities energized by the charism inspired by Jesus and Mary, Help of Christians and handed down to each of us through St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello. Trusting in the blessings of God, our ministry will flourish, inspiring countless others to take up the challenge of finding their fulfillment in the apostolic care of youth in the Salesian family. Don Bosco's cry of "da mihi animas, coetera tolle," will echo through the decades and centuries wherever there are youth in need. Don Bosco's sons and daughters and their myriad collaborators will be there in loving care and service.
