Dear Brother and Sister Salesians:

Today in our Salesian calendar we remember St. Louis Orione.  He met Don Bosco at the age of 16, when Don Bosco was in the last year of his life.  A student at Valdocco, he would go to confession to Don Bosco, whose simple words stayed with him the rest of his life: “We will always be friends.” 

A young boy meets an old priest, and his life is changed.

In these concluding days of the Easter season, our Extraordinary Visitation is also coming to an end.  As I write this, Father Esteban Ortiz is busy putting together his final report, which he will deliver to the province in two places at once!  Live and in real time, he will give us the final report exactly where the whole Salesian presence in the United States had its beginning, Sts.

I have just returned from Mexico City where I had the honor to give an opening talk at the provincial chapter of the province there (MEM).  Their chapter is being held in a beautiful Salesian retreat house some 2000 meters above Mexico City.

Provincial Announcement: Eternal Rest +Fr. John Malloy, SDB

At 6:00 am on March 27, Fr. John Malloy, SDB breathed his last. Fr. John was in the ICU section of St. Mary's Hospital, San Francisco. The last few days were uncomfortable with a breathing tube as a last resort to overcome his pneumonia and general weakness. Fr. John's 91st birthday was March 17th.

We pray for his eternal happiness. Please see funeral arrangements below.
